It stars Scarlett Johansson as the title character along with Morgan Freeman playing Professor Norman.[6][7]Lucy is a hard-partying, 25-year-old American woman living and studying in Taipei, Taiwan. She is forced to work as a drug mule by her new boyfriend for his employer, a Taiwanese gangster and drug lord named Mr. Jang. Lucy delivers a briefcase to Mr. Jang's hotel room that is handcuffed to her wrist containing a highly valuable synthetic superdrug that can increase the user's brain function capacity. The packaged drug is sewn into Lucy's addomen and that of others who will also transport the drug for sales in Europe. While in captivity, one of Lucy's captors kicks her mercilessly in the stomach, which causes the bag inside her to begin to leak, releasing the brain-enhancing drug into her system. As a result, she begins acquiring increasingly powerful mental talents and enhanced physical capabilities, such as absorbing information instantaneously, telekinesis, mental time travel, and can choose not to feel pain or other discomforts, in addition to other abilities. With her superhuman powers growing, Lucy only has a short amount of time left to find the men responsible for her new found powers and contacts a well known scientist and doctor, Professor Norman, whose research may be the key to saving her.

The project was first revealed in September , when it was reported that Saran had stopped working on the pre-production of Aal, Ambu, Senai, a venture featuring Vishal and chosen to work on a script titled Senthatti Kaalai Sevatha Kaalai with Vinay in the lead role. The film was announced to be jointly produced by Vikram Raj for Vega Entertainment and Saran who would also work on the story, screenplay and direction. Bharathwaj, a regular in Saran's projects, was signed on to compose the music while three new girls called Samuthirka, Kaambari and Shilpi Verma were signed on to play pivotal roles.

Production began in December  in Thirunelveli, and posters from a photo shoot featuring Vinay in dual roles was released later in February Bharadwaj noted the film was a musical, revealing he had composed six songs of usual length plus fifteen more of about thirty seconds length for scenes. However the film ran into troubles in 2013 and filming was postponed for the remainder of the year. The team re-emerged and began production again in early January 2014, with Saran announcing that new actresses Swasthika and Kesha were also being introduced, in place of a couple of actresses who had been revealed earlier.[5] Rethika Srinivas, previously seen in Vazhakku Enn  and Nimirndhu Nil (2014), revealed that she would play a village character pitted against the two characters played by Vinay. She also revealed that the film's title had been changed to Aayirathil Iruvar and the team subsequently shot scenes in Tirunelveli ]Director Saran got a special place in the industry after giving us hit films like Amarkalam, Attagasam and Kadhal Mannan. Now, we hear that the director is all set to kick-start his next project titled Aayirathil Iruvar, which will have Vinay in the lead role. Interestingly, Vinay will be playing dual roles in the film and the actor is mighty happy that he would have enough scope to perform.

Composer Bharadwaj will be scoring music for the film. The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be finalised.

JK Enum Nanbanin Vaazhkai (English: Life of a friend called JK) is an upcoming Tamil film written and directed by Cheran. It stars Sharwanand, Nithya Menen, while Prakash Raj and Santhanam play supporting roles. It is being simultaneously made in Telugu as Yemito Ee Maaya. The film is being produced by Dream Theatres who earlier produced films like Autograph, Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu and Muran. The film, which is said to be a youth entertainer, features songs by G. V. Prakash Kumar and film scored by Siddharth Vipin.[2] Planning to release earlier of 2014.The soundtrack features 5 songs composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, with lyrics by Na. Muthukumar, Yugabharathi, Madhan Karky Cheran. The album was released by Cheran's music company Dream Sounds Digital Solution on September 15, 2013.[3] The film's score was composed by Siddharth Vipin who also composed three additional songs for the film. Milliblog wrote: "Cheran’s last film as director – Pokkisham – had fantastic music from Sabesh Murali; the move to GV Prakash Kumar produces underwhelming results".[4] Indiaglitz wrote: "Funky, rocking and melodious, the album has everything that the youth these days want to listen to. Predominantly duets and only one solo to speak of, the album will certainly be a popular favourite among all".[5] Behindwoods wrote:"There are moments of classic GVP, but could have done with few more".[6]Sharwanand had dubbed for his character in Tamil. As part of the promotion Cheran initiated a project named JK Fest 2013, in which college students from Tamil Nadu could participate. Students were asked to visualise and use their creativity to enact the songs of JK Enum Nanbanin Vaazhkai without knowing the film's story. Cheran revealed that the film ‘JK Enum Nanbanin Vazhkai’ will be released on Internet, DVD and satellite, on the same day of its theatrical release. It is worth mentioning that no other Tamil film has been released in this manner. Cheran added that by releasing the film across all media on the same day, piracy can be curA funky guitar riff leads you to yet another Facebook based tune but GV does well to relieve the song of clichés with the dialogue exchange between the singers. Karky’s lyrics are geekily creative and aimed at the net junkies and GV’s incorporation of FB notification sounds is a good touch. The singing is as upbeat as the track’s mood.The couple unites yet again for what’s almost a duet, because G.V’s appearance on this is very brief. The track has a collection of nice melodies; the main chorus especially is the best of the lot. The instrumentation is quiet and rather minimalistic but the instrumental highlight of the guitar solo sounds very mechanical and lacking a natural fluency.A different composition that stands out in this album with its Middle Eastern vibe over an effective electronic groove. The singers are in good form, and make it hard to pick a favorite. The track carries an air of seriousness around it with its words and sound which make it fairly gripping with the stranglehold the singers create vocally.
